One of the things that isn’t widely known about China is how innovative it is with governance. The outside world thinks of China as a big communist totalitarian State, but within China there’s more experimentation with governance than probably anywhere else in the world. Air pollution is one example. Air quality in China was appalling, and still isn’t great, but they’ve made big progress on it in the last 1-2 years. And also they’re making huge progress towards addressing their carbon emissions. Contrast that with India (picture), where air quality is often super toxic, and no progress is made beyond a bit of annual social media outrage. Compare it with the West too, where how we’re governed is obviously in a bit of crisis.
