Rupert maintaining the rage against Facebook. It’s inaccurate to see FB as stealing ‘content’ from news. FB is a collective conversation platform, news is a one-way broadcast medium. News has always been a type of mythology, a tiny constructed story each day of ‘what’s happening’, of the millions of things actually happening. People don’t need news for that as much now, they tell each other what’s happening through social media. This is an anthropological shift, just as it was when news stole the role of public storytelling from oral culture. Oral culture is fighting back.
