I loved Clive James, read a lot of his work, loved his wit and TV. He was an extremely clever man, but I don’t think he was the giant he’s being described as today. Not to disrespect his memory, but to make it real. Much of James’ work seemed driven by a deep need to show-off, he seemed very vain. And maybe the best test of his greatness as a thinker is - did he ever offend or surprise anybody? Not really, Clive’s main desire was to to be admired. But we’re lucky to have had him.
