Shows how much energy each source contains per kg. The tiny energy density of a lithium battery shows the extraordinary efficiency of electric motors. EVs already get close to the range of a petrol or diesel vehicle, with only a fraction of the energy. The range of petrol and diesel cars is due to the enormous amount of energy in petrol and diesel, 80% of which they blast as heat straight out the exhaust, which they can’t use. With that same amount of energy an EV would travel thousands of kilometres. Range is also a furphy. Most people travel less than 40km per day.
