Here's why I think the idea of staying at home in social isolation is such a drama for many people. It goes to the deep roots of our culture. We are compulsive travellers. Being at home - being grounded, being present - is not us. We gotta be 'doing' stuff, to be happy. At the moment many are squealing like stuck pigs, to use an old expression, at their compulsory confinement, way beyond what should be reasonable. I think this is why. This might be something we actually need, to cure our own travel virus, to force us to be grounded in ourselves again. To reflect for once, rather than just to do. To finally exterminate that last remnant of empire in us, that makes us want to accumulate things and 'sights'. To stop living in a map.
