I’ve been playing guitar for about 40 years now. One piece of advice I’d give to anybody learning an instrument, that you don’t usually hear much in music teaching. Learn songs. All this stuff about scales and chords etc. is fine, but it’s a projection of theory back onto the instrument. Playing songs will teach your ear and hands everything they need to know. Or as my friend David Gorman would say, practice what you intend to eventually do, otherwise you just become expert at practice exercises. As a bonus you’ll end up with a huge repertoire.
