Hardly anybody uses an architect. They cost you a lot of money, they rarely take responsibility for budget overruns (which they specialise in), and there’s often an arrogant dislike of the customer, whom the architect often sees as clueless. And the buildings are often very expensive to maintain. The field is dominated by wanky theories of design that don’t have much connection to the experience of the people who will live or work in the building.
