20 mph is about 30 km/h. I remember the huge fuss when we moved to 50km/h here. Now hardly anybody thinks about it. Getting cars out of the centre of our lives will be fought every step of the way. It’s a fight for our freedom, mobility is a prison. The moment you can travel anywhere with ease is the moment your own place on the Earth, your home, becomes irrelevant to anybody else. The function of cars is to get to somewhere else, and as fast as you can. ‘Get out of my way.’
