Traditional media is now caught up in the snowballing viral pearl-clutching over AI. This story of course framed as dreadful AI leading people astray. But where are these people being led astray? On social media. By another influencer, who happens to be fake. What you don’t see is the stories about the immense tool AI is proving to be to fight crime. Here are 10 ways. 1. It’s revealing and smashing child exploitation networks. 2. It’s torpedoing money laundering by identifying whole ecosystems of money flows. 3. It’s detecting human trafficking invisible to investigators. 4. It’s identifying and countering online fraud, at massive scale. 5. It’s able to analyse CCTV at an industrial scale. 6. It can analyse city sounds and determine gunshots well before any reports. 7. It’s breaking encrypted criminal communications. 8. It’s predicting and countering cyber attacks. 9. It’s detecting deep fakes like this one, and digital deception more generally. 10. It’s solving cold cases by exponentially increasing the speed of analysis. AI is coming people. A pandemic outbreak of intelligence. Smashing the stupidity dominating our social media world. I’m enjoying the pearl clutching of the imitating masses as it does its work. Like the first Industrial Revolution, it will make our lives immensely better.
