This got the anti-EV mental midgets excited yesterday. Some electric cars having to queue for hours for a charge in Chicago in frigid conditions. Some had to be towed away because they ran out of charge. So, the reality? This has happened to petrol and diesel cars forever in freak cold storms, with drivers low on fuel idling the engine to keep the heating running inside the car, then running out and having to abandon the car or freeze to death. Many of these drivers could easily have been charging from home, sitting inside and warm, and not needing to queue at all. You don’t need a servo for an EV when you’re not travelling. These same drivers waited until their batteries were nearly empty, to charge. In freak weather conditions this isn’t going to work no matter what technology you use, because you’re going to need to heat the car while you wait. These extreme weather conditions are also very rare for most people, so the crowing about this showing EVs as being a disaster is just morons at play.
