I used to wear Crocs, and became notorious for it because they were considered socially 'out'. Now they're all the rage. If you look, you'll find everything in life, child or adult, follows this same basic mechanism. Science, politics, cars, business, music, relationships etc. It's all the same mechanism, of peer pressure, with people joining a group or team, and using it to define their status and therefore identity, in battle with other teams. What I mean by 'we never leave high school'. That is literally true, and most often we don't even notice we're doing it.
