I sometimes sit and watch the washing machine and the dryer, to see how the AI works that’s built into them. One example is something I’m sure many have in their machines too, the machine weighs each load, and automatically determines the amount of laundry liquid and water to use. But a thing I found nifty is spinning the wash, which on older machines can get unbalanced. The machine starts a slow spin, and measures how balanced the load is. If it’s unbalanced, it will stop, then spin slowly in the other direction, to re-balance the load. It’ll keep doing that over and over, slowly and changing spin direction constantly, until the load is balanced. Only then will it speed up for the full spin cycle. This stuff is cool. I love clever.
