The Great Divergence, where economic benefits are flowing overwhelmingly to the old, is the flip side of eternal youth culture. Part of the ‘circle of life’ is a passing of the baton to younger generations, including wealth and opportunity. Now the old live like the young, their entire lives. Retirement went from being the old filling their shopping trolleys with Milk Arrowroots and Iced Vo-Vos, to them now sailing down the Rhine on luxury cruises. If you don’t see or understand this, and you’re older (as I am), I’d advise extreme caution dealing with the young now and in years to come. The anger is visceral.
