Don’t listen to all the spiritualist mumbo jumbo about what aboriginal peoples believe. I think it all boils down to 4 entirely practical principles: 1) treat everything as something you might eat or use 2) do everything to make the things in 1) as abundant as possible 3) do everything to make the things in 1) as convenient to you as possible, and 4) do everything to make the things in 1) as predictable to you as possible. If you mull over those, I think you’ll see that being entirely selfish, as 1-4 are, also encourages you to do everything you can to look after everything else, and make it more abundant and diverse. And it will take you in the exact opposite direction to most of our agriculture, and to veganism, our food fantasy that sits alongside our landscape fantasy of ‘wilderness’.
