The world repeats the same patterns, and I think we often get stuck in just one part of the pattern and miss the wider movement of what’s going on. Take the music and film industry. For years they’ve been talking about how music and film production and musicians and artists were being destroyed by digital technology. But they weren’t, what was being destroyed was only who held the strings of power in music and film. Now, as even an ancient reptile like Murdoch acknowledges, content is king again. Murdoch is over. The focus is back on the artists, the old business models were smashed, but then new ones were built. Those who moaned about the end of civilisation were the losers, those who went with the trends won big-time.
