Always surprised that people think it is, particularly with the passions they show for their own favourite art and artists. And in every genre of art, there is a canon - a list of artists people generally agree are the ‘greats’. Nobody is in charge of that canon, it emerges from the collective judgment of everybody. People know what’s good and what isn’t.
