When I was a kid Australia spoke about how clever it was, most people could list our famous inventions, like the Hills Hoist. Can you think of many great Australian discoveries or inventions of the past 25-30 years? Our society is ageing, focused on ‘lifestyle’ retirement luxuries funded by tax concessions, and not on new ideas. I don’t hate the boomers, I’m saying you can’t understand our country without realising there’s so many of them. The circle of life is broken, hugely skewed to the older folk. Our politics is the politics of the old: cranky, reactionary, conservative, and hostile to new ideas.
