Our tools shape how we see and think, something I was taught but which isn’t common in many schools or universities. Apart from making us think there is a 3-dimensional thing called ‘space’ (there isn’t) and a 4th dimension called time (there isn’t), perspective drawing is also the root of our idea about ‘putting things in perspective’. But I think even more interesting is those vanishing points, which all perspective drawing has. Those vanishing points are the source of our ideas about truth, God and spirit. They’re well named, they cause us to think that everything that exists ‘in space’ is a projection from some master view, ’outside’ space. The God’s-eye view. All transcendent things exist in those vanishing points, where the world we know literally vanishes into another realm.
