The double glazed windows of course are fantastic for dramatically cutting heat and cold transfer. But something we’re enjoying as much if not more is how much sound they cut out. 70-80% of outside noise. For example in the past few days we had near gale-forced winds at times. Didn’t even know it was happening, could lay in bed not hearing one thing. We also live near a fairly busy road, and now no longer hear it. The frames are so important with good glazing, a lot of heat and sound passes not through the glass, but through the frame. The uPVC frames are brilliant there, they have a 5-chambered set of spaces designed to block the transmission of heat and sound. Can see the chambers in the cutaway view below. It’s like being in a great library, a refuge from any noise outside.
