The bats are an increasing issue not just for Bathurst, but many other towns. The Botanic Gardens in Sydney used a novel approach to drive them out about a decade ago (not sure how it's going now), and it's not simple because it often just drives them somewhere else. For example if a local Council were to do this, it may drive the bats into resident backyards instead, which is unlikely to be seen as a solution. And again humans brought this on themselves by destroying so much habitat with strip-mine-farming and property development. But some beautiful parks are now nearly unusable. There are no easy answers. What I mean when I say we have no idea how to co-exist here with a much older Australia. We'll need to learn really fast. The people who do know we just screwed, telling them to be more like us.
