Often they regret it because we don't live in strong communities any more, so the burden falls hugely on parents. Raising the next generation is the only really important work anybody does, there are no substitutes. Only by doing that, day after day over many years, do you understand the arduous work of keeping civilisation going. The only work aimed at eternity and not today or tomorrow.
