Elections are a disaster for democracy. Many confuse democracy *with* elections, but they're not the same thing. Democracy is over 2000 years old, elections are only 100. An election is a popularity contest, used as a tool to select leaders. We don't select staff or managers in workplaces using popularity, because that would be ridiculous. But we select who runs towns, States and countries with popularity and wonder why things are a mess. No serious problems can ever be solved using popularity. If the needed action was popular, it would already be happening. Elections turn all adult life into high school life. High schools run on popularity.
