The Streets as Shared Spaces program in NSW is part of a global urban design push towards ‘placemaking’. Taking back urban space from the car. Making those spaces shared spaces again, for everybody, not just cars. You’ll hear a lot of whining and whinging from the car-lovers, as streets are made car-unfriendly. Let them whine. Tokyo’s efforts in the picture below. Cars have destroyed towns and cities. Towns and cities are finally fighting back. The ‘15-minute’ city is part of the same movement. As with EVs, there will come a day soon where we wonder what we were thinking, being enslaved to internal combustion engines, destroying the quiet, making the air filthy, destroying our urban spaces, making us $50 billion a year poorer buying fuel from Texans and Arabs.
