We think brands like Toyota, Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan etc. are the dominant car sellers in Australia. As an indication of just how out of whack our feelings are with reality, CarSauce went through the car sales data and got rid of all the fleet buys, which skew the results hugely. Toyota Hiluxes and Ford Rangers usually top the ‘best selling cars in Australia’ lists. But most of that is fleet sales. Who sells BY FAR the most vehicles in Australian, in 2025? China. It’s not even close. 53% of new car sales are for Chinese cars. The next best is Korea, with only 15%. In CarSauce’s data, by far the best-selling car in Australia is the Chery Tiggo 4. Chinese cars are now high quality, and unbeatable on price.
