John Farnham’s term with LRB wasn’t very successful. But it was I think the greatest singing in the history of rock music. Farnham was at his peak, and the harmonies were like nothing anybody else has ever done live. Graeham (that is the spelling) Goble, LRB’s main songwriter, said it was the highlight of his career, and his own singling improved tenfold singing with Farnham, whom he describes as the greatest singer ever born. Have a listen, to him singing alone, and the harmonies. John Farnham went on to become a household name, and that’s obscured his phenomenal talent a bit. He’s a monster, not just with his vocal ability but with the intelligence of how he phrased things. I remember Jimmy Barnes inviting him around to his house, and Barnes saying he nearly shit himself when Farnham opened his mouth and started singing.
