Ever noticed that people can only live 'off the grid', in 'self-sufficient' ways, in societies that have a grid in the first place? They're not self-sufficient at all, they're absolutely reliant upon a strong, stable society to enable that lifestyle. (Check out the solar panel on this little hut, good luck making that yourself.) Try being self-sufficient in the middle of an unstable society, and you'll probably be murdered for your gear and food in a week. I think it's a wank. A rich and privileged person's wank. It's also another way to show the stupidity of the idea that society and government is some sort of restriction on individuals. People who hate government, funnily enough, tend to live in countries with strong governments. They'd be dead in no time living anywhere else.
