This is a leader. Not just standing there like a jabbering idiot parroting slogans about boats. A leader.

Synchrony. Give everybody the chance and space to interact with others, and you get harmony.

The internal combustion engine has done a lot for the world, but it's loud, inefficient and filthy. If you ever get a chance to be in a city that doesn't have it (like Venice), you realise what we've lost. More than anything else it's destroyed civic life, splitting cities up into suburbs that wouldn't even function without cars. And air pollution is a killer, a sleeping killer that is finally getting recognition. Back burning for fires will have to be looked at again as well, the smoke likely kills far more people than fires do.

Do the Chilli Peppers just keep re-writing the same bad song, over and over?

Bewdiful. (We can give up with science education when even astronauts call this zero gravity.)

It's like they say, it's hard to know you're dumb, when you're dumb, because you're too dumb.

For years medical science has said 'just a placebo'. Which begged the question - why do placebos work? Now it turns out it's possible many of the health effects of even normal drugs could be 'placebo' too. And placebo can change in strength over time too, showing it's not just some little effect that can be controlled for.

As nearly always, Greer is way too smart to be understood by the people who hate her. Her view is wise and sophisticated and consistent, over decades. If women aren't even sure what being a woman means, why is 'female' so often the default, dumping ground gender allocated to people who are confused about their own gender?

Happy birthday Guy. I'm betting you'll have a smile on your face, like every other day :)

I go to major public events and see thousands of dinkum Ozzies who don't sing the anthem when it's played. And plenty of NRL, union, AFL and cricketers who don't sing it either, even when they're on national TV. All do-gooders, obviously.

Two issues being mixed up here? Nobody really owns the land underneath where they live, they just are given that ownership by government (i.e. from the public - it's a common resource). And there have always been restrictions on that as well - you own the surface of the land, but that doesn't mean you control everything underneath that land - you don't 'own' the land right through to the centre of the planet. Where I live has mines under many of the houses for just this reason, and most people are happy enough to accept that. Separately, coal seam gas in many situations is just a bloody stupid idea.

The critics of mindfulness point out how it looks like a withdrawal strategy, from everyday reality. Having separate meditation and yoga rooms will only make that perception worse. Mindfulness is best practiced while you're doing the things you normally do, including work. Just means being 'mindful' or aware of what's happening as you do things.
